I know a follows the verb conocer to emphasize the person as a direct object, but why would a verb like mudarse have a personal a followed after it when the direct object would be a place? In general, when is the personal a used in spanish? Is there a general rule, or do I have to memorize it with certain verbs?

Answer by Ben10
whenever you do something to a person you put an personal a in front of it.

Ive noticed they also use it with a pet that you would consider loved and has a name. But it all depends.

Honestly i dont know why they do it. It just sounds right to me. ha
