Question by Dmitri: How much money do horror films make compared to romantic comedies?
I'm giving a persuasive speech in school about why people should watch horror movie(specifically zombie films but horror movies in general is okay too) more often. I'm giving this speech to a classroom full of girls, and, because I figure that girls watch romantic comedies and things like that more often than horror/zombie films(sorry for the stereotype, i'm just trying to better appeal to my audience). I am focusing mainly on romantic comedy budgets compared to horror/zombie budgets, but movies of any other genre also work.

The average horror film makes a fraction of the amount the average Rom-Com makes
Rom Coms have large marketing campaigns that guarantee large box office takings no matter what the quality of the movie is.
Lets be honest you could easily count the number of good rom coms in the last decade on one hand. They have all made huge profits though.
Rom Coms cater to an audience that don't care about the quality, this is why the genre has steadily got worse and worse over the years. It's movie making by numbers where everybody lives happily ever after.
In order for a horror film to be successful it has to be very good...
even then success is not guaranteed!
I think you will struggle to persuade girls to watch horror films though. If you can get more young women to watch any other types of films other than Rom Coms then you will be helping society.
